PDF content that can be directly accessed by users Source: Researcher Documentation, 2024 Implementation of Al in Library Information Systems Much research has been done on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in libraries, but there are still many new ideas that could be implemented. Many of these ideas are already being used in other fields such as economics, healthcare, and government. In this paper, we will look at some Al concepts that are already being used in libraries and also those that have been successful in other fields but have not yet been adopted by libraries. Nowadays, many libraries rely on security guards and employee personnel to maintain security. However, the shortage of human resources often reduces the effectiveness and efficiency of security services. To overcome this problem, various technological innovations have been introduced. One of the innovations is OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog), the following picture of OPAC display in UB Library can be seen in Figure 9. I Figure 9. OPAC Display on UB Library Website Source: Researcher Documentation, 2024 > OPAC is part of the library management system that helps users search and view the availability of library collections. It is a computer system that allows users to browse library collections online. According to Hafiah (2011), OPAC is a database of catalog records that can be accessed by the public, helping users find collections quickly and accurately. If this system is connected to the circulation system, users can find out whether the material they are looking for is available or on loan. Meanwhile, Pawit (2009) adds that the purpose of this online service is to help users identify or search for information sources, especially in the face of an explosion of technological and scientific information. Currently, OPAC still uses a conventional approach with text search through typing on a computer. However, with Al and voice recognition technology, OPAC features can be improved. Users only need to say what they are looking for, and the OPAC will provide answers and display the availability and location of the collection. Similar to personal assistants such as Siri and Google Assistant, the OPAC assistant service aims to provide users with the information they need through voice recognition, including book collections available in the library I think the application of AI like this in libraries is very important. With AL library services can become more efficient and user-friendly. Users no longer need to struggle with typing or searching for books manually. In addition, this technology can save time and effort, both for users and library staff. The implementation of Al in libraries can be a big step towards modernizing and improving the quality of library services. Impact of Al on Digital Library Service Quality Advances in information and communication technology have significantly changed the landscape of libraries. Once just a place to store books with limited catalogs, libraries have now evolved into semi-modern entities more sophisticated cataloging systems. Digital libraries have also become a major trend by utilizing information technology to provide a wider range of services. The utilization of information technology in libraries has become very important to stay relevant in this with digital era. These technologies help to improve library services, increase the efficiency of daily tasks, and provide easier access for users. For example, we can now access digital collections online, borrow and return books automatically, and get consultation and reference services more quickly and easily. AI helps libraries provide more personalized and adaptive services. For example, Al can provide book recommendations based on users' interests and reading habits and assist in information search and analysis. Al makes library services more efficient and effective, allowing librarians to focus on tasks that require specialized skills and human interaction. However, the use of Al also brings negative impacts. Automation of routine tasks can replace librarians, especially in administrative and technical tasks. This could result in a reduction of labor in certain fields. Additionally, there is a risk of algorithm bias in AI systems, which could lead to unfair or discriminatory recommendations. Privacy issues also need to be considered, especially in the collection and analysis of user data Figure 10. Digital Library Services at UB Library Source: Researcher Documentation, 2024 is in UB Library has succeeded in transferring book collections to digital form or what called Digital Library which can be utilized by users, so they no longer need to read printed books, an overview of digital library service activities at UB Library can be seen Figure 10. By utilizing information technology and artificial intelligence, libraries can provide better and more personalized services to users. However, the challenges that arise also need to be addressed wisely so that libraries can still provide added value to society in this digital era

Discussion

In is this digital era, information technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI), the key to improving digital library services. Al has great potential to manage and organize vast collections of information, accelerate the process of searching and accessing information, and improve interaction with users. However, the implementation of Al in libraries is still at an early stage and faces many challenges. Examples of the main benefits of Al are the ability to improve user services, such as more customized literature searches, collection management, and virtual interaction through chatbots. However, it is important to consider the privacy and ethical aspects of using this technology. In terms of collection management, Al can help identify literature that matches user preferences, facilitate information retrieval systems, and improve the efficiency of library services. However, we must ensure that Al implementation does not override the role of librarians in providing personalized and meaningful services to users. In addition, we also need to consider the positive and negative impacts of Al in library services, including its potential to improve information accessibility, operational efficiency, and user experience, but also the risks related to data privacy and security The use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology provides an opportunity for libraries to innovate in service delivery. For example, the use of chatbots and virtual assistants can improve operational efficiency and responsiveness of services to users. However, libraries must ensure that these technologies do not replace the role of librarians, but rather act as tools to improve service quality. In addition, AI can also be used in the digitization process of library collections, such as by using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to scan and automatically recognize handwriting and print on ancient documents. Supported by Al, this process has become more efficient and accurate, making it easier to access information that was previously hard to reach. However, it is important to maintain the quality of the data and the accuracy of the scans so that the information provided remains reliable. In conclusion, the use of Al in digital library services has a great impact on improving efficiency, accessibility, and service quality. However, to make the most of Al's potential, libraries need to pay attention to various aspects, including privacy, ethics, and the involvement of librarians in the implementation and development process of this technology. According to the discussion from our group, we strongly support the use of Al in libraries because it can make services more efficient and access to information easier. However, we also believe that the role of librarians remains very important. AI should be seen as a tool that helps librarians, not replaces them. Librarians have a unique ability to understand user needs and provide a personal touch that technology cannot replace. With the right balance, libraries can utilize Al technology to provide the best service to users.

Conclusion

The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in digital libraries provides many significant benefits, including improved operational efficiency, information accessibility, and quality of user services. Al allows libraries to better manage and organize large collections, speed up the information search and access process, and improve user interaction through technologies such as chatbots and virtual assistants. However, the application of Al also has some negative impacts, especially on data privacy and security, and the need to ensure that these technologies do not replace the important role of librarians in providing personalized and meaningful services. To overcome these challenges, libraries must collaborate with various parties, including the government, educational institutions, and technology developers, and implement appropriate regulations to protect the privacy and ethical use of Al. Further research is needed to evaluate the direct impact of Al implementation in libraries and develop effective strategies to utilize this technology. Thus, libraries can continue to innovate and adapt in the digital era to provide the best services and fulfill users' information needs efficiently and inclusively. Retraining and skills development programs for librarians are essential to ensure they can work with AI and other new technologies. This will help them stay relevant and productive in delivering quality library services. Libraries should work with technology developers to create Al solutions that suit the needs of the library and users. This collaboration will ensure that the technologies implemented are truly useful and effective. The government and relevant institutions need to develop appropriate regulations to protect privacy and manage the negative impacts of Al use. Libraries should also ensure that the use of Al follows high ethical principles. Continuous research is needed to evaluate the impact of Al on library services and to identify areas that need improvement. This will help libraries to continuously improve their services and adapt to technological changes. Libraries should continuously improve and upgrade their technology infrastructure to support Al implementation and ensure efficient and reliable digital services. By following these recommendations, libraries can harness the immense potential of Al to improve their services and continue to serve as vital information hubs in a digital society.
